Charles Bittel III, OD – Yorba Linda Optometrist

Dr. Charles F. Bittel III (Dr. Charlie or Dr. Bittel Junior) was introduced to the world of Optometry over 30 years ago at his father’s graduation from Optometry school. He is a graduate of Servite High School in Anaheim and received his degree in Psychology from UCLA. Dr. Charlie Bittel graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Southern California College of Optometry in 2006 and was the class Salutatorian. During his time at SCCO Dr. Charlie Bittel had internships in all areas of primary care optometry including contact lenses, pediatrics, ocular disease, LASIK co-management, vision therapy, and low vision. His education in these areas was further developed with rotations at the VA Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, the Center for the Partially Sighted in Santa Monica, and the Optometric Center of Los Angeles.

Dr. Charlie Bittel loves all aspects of optometric care, but since being in practice he has developed a passion for Orthokeratology and myopia control. More recently he has partnered with eyeBrain, a neuro-optometric company that has developed the neuroLens, a potential treatment option for chronic headache sufferers. Dr. Charlie Bittel is also honored to be a part of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care’s Speaker’s Bureau, where he enjoys facilitating discussions with colleagues on best practices in contact lens care.

In his spare time, Dr. Charlie Bittel enjoys watching UCLA athletics and spending time with his wife Drew, who owns a successful photography business and runs an internationally recognized blog Mom*tog, and his kids Brayden and Kennedy.

Every day Dr. Charlie Bittel has the fortune of seeing patients that are new to the practice, as well as those that have been seeing his father for over 30 years. Dr. Charlie Bittel looks forward to taking exceptional care of all of these patients for years to come.

Charles Bittel, OD – Yorba Linda Optometrist

Dr. Charles F. Bittel (Dr. Chuck or Dr. Bittel Senior) is a long time resident of Orange County where he attended Western High School in Anaheim. His undergraduate degree in Medical Microbiology was completed at California State University, Long Beach. He began his professional career as an educator, teaching biology, physiology and chemistry at Villa Park and Canyon High Schools. While teaching, he received a Master’s Degree from the University of San Francisco. Having originally intended a career in the health profession, Dr. Bittel returned to school and completed his Doctorate at the Southern California College of Optometry. After graduation he established his practice at the remote eastern ridge of Yorba Linda, which today (30 years later) is the population center of the town.

Dr. Joo Chi, OD – Optometrist

Dr. Joo Hae Chi grew up in the Bay Area and there, as a high school student, was introduced to the world of Optometry. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. She then pursued her career and received her optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in 2005. While in Optometry school, Dr. Chi gained valuable knowledge in the fields of ocular disease, special populations care and contact lens management. Externship sites included various community health clinics throughout Boston, VA hospital in Bedford, MA, Perkins School for the Blind and VA hospital in Fresno, CA.

She has since returned to Southern California and has worked for Eyexam of California for the past 8 years and was the managing doctor at the Anaheim location for 6 of those years. In those years she has refined her skills as a doctor but more importantly truly enjoys meeting and building relationships with her patients to become a part of their lives.

Dr. Chi resides in Buena Park with her husband and 3 young children Madelyn (5), Isaac (3) and Jacob (10months).
